Ask Mary Beth :: June 2020

Question 1: What is still on your bucket list professionally and/or personally?

Great question! One item on my bucket list is to visit Italy with SCC for a long trip after Stevey Joy goes off to college. I’ve always wanted to go drive and experience the landscapes, quaint towns, and great food! I can’t wait to go there in the fall of 2021—barring this small thing called COVID-19.

I’ve also been watching SJ train her whole life to cheer on a college co-ed team. Bucket list: Have a team (and a daughter!) to root for and attend the games! Go, SJ!

I’ve also ALWAYS wanted to storm-chase. I want to go with those guys who know where the bad weather is and watch from a safe but semi-dangerous viewpoint. How fun would that be?

And last, on a silly (but for real) note, I want to see Duke beat North Carolina at Duke and meet Coach K. Sorry, NC fans.

Question 2: What are your top five places on earth and why?

1. I mean this when I say, There is no place like home.

2. We have a small place on Kentucky Lake near SCC’s hometown. We just love it there.

3. Hawaii. Because, well, it’s Hawaii—no matter what island.

4. The beach… any beach… as long as it is warm, and you can sit and listen to the waves. I LOVE the beach!

5. There is a “Big, Blue House” called Maria’s Big House of Hope in China. There, Show Hope has helped care for some sweet children over the years. We love it there. The locals say, “It’s the house where God lives.” And that’s true! It is named in memory of our daughter, and it really is such a special place.
